What would you do if you weren't afraid?

For me: the answer was: I would quit my full-time job. So - I did. It required overcoming fear about financial stability, a fear of losing my “social status” (😉) and other things like organize the paperwork to be allowed to stay in Russia (as a foreigner I could stay in Russia on work-visa permit only).

Giving up something that stressed me out and didn't give me joy gave me space for new things. I decided to take care of myself and develop the headhunting business as it was my passion.

After about 6 months of intense work on myself, I read only 2 self-development books, did about 80% of the exercises from these two books. For this reason, I think, when it comes to self-development, better to read fewer books and do the exercises in them, rather than reading a lot of self-development books and doing nothing.

While in the process of change, it’s important to have a so-called “support group”, which I did have. Of course, most of my friends and I drifted apart, but those who remained are my friends to this day.

Half a year after quitting my job and developing a headhunting company, a new super project just came to me. I agreed to accept the offer because:

  • I got freedom as a leader

  • it was a huge challenge and, for me, it’s when I achieve the impossible that I feel like I’m developing the most

  • the job was in St. Petersburg which I love!

I sold the shares of the recruitment company and focused 100% on the new project, which turned out to be a great success personally for me and for the company I worked for.

Thanks to the fact that I overcame my fears and started investing in my personal development and development as a leader:

  • I replaced my life on autopilot with one I am fully aware of and appreciative of

  • I changed a 9-5 job into one with passion and a flexible work mode

  • I no longer have to force myself to believe in my self-worth – I simply just do.

  • the everyday sacrifices to achieve any kind of success got replaced by effortless work. I do less and have more. I do whatever feels right to me, instead of doing whatever is expected to satisfy peoples’ visions of me.

  • I know that I can achieve whatever I want if I only put my mind to it.
